Amidst the COVID Pandemic, the participants were well prepared with mask-wearing and social distancing. The talk was an hour-long and Dr Jonathan was busy busting the myths and truths of HIV. Doctor Jonathan Gui is an advocate for those affected with HIV and has been actively servicing those living with HIV. The talk was an hour-long followed by a Q&A session. To top off the event, AMD Clinic provided free anonymous HIV testing to the participants.
Take-home messages for all the participants were:
Know which HIV test to take and when to take the test
HIV can be treated and people living with HIV can have a normal fulfilling life
Those living with HIV can have babies and their babies can be born without HIV as long as the parents have their HIV under control and treated
Diseases like cancer or the flu are just diseases and are not stigmatizing therefore HIV is also just a disease and should not be stigmatized. People living with HIV as safe to be with and should be treated fairly and equally.
It was a fruitful day and many participants gained so much more at the end of the talk as compared to before the event. We love these events because they help change the perception of diseases when they have more understanding.
